There's nothing that enhances the outdoors like a water feature. That's pretty much the line between mundane and special, so it pays to look into something of that nature if you're trying to create a special space for outdoor relaxing or entertaining. Even the sounds of water flowing aren't the same coming from any other device than a fountain!

Great thoughts. Curb appeal is very important. Put more into landscaping. I'd suggest adding sod or grass seed to make the lawn look nice, and perhaps some flowers around the mailbox.

Ornamental grasses are attractive, large and low maintenance plants that like full sun. Large rocks look nice and are maintenance free. I would skip the sod, to much work to mow.

Rocks in and around the pond, along with local plants, make for a beautiful yet natural transition to the surrounding area. Great tips and info! I love ponds in lawns, they are the best feature of any lawn by far and can't wait to have my own! Thanks!

great tips! especially on installing irrigation. I did it myself on my own yard. I think I'd hire it out next time around but glad we've got it. To get inspiration we found a lot of yard and landscaping ideas online. I liked yardshare.com. You can also add your project once you're finished to show off all the hard work!

Fountains and other water features indeed give gardens a more relaxing effect. Not to mention the beauty they add to your landscape. Deciding on a garden or outdoor landscape with a fountain or any water feature means, however, that you need landscaping professionals. They are the ones who know where to get the materials and how to install everything.

Hi Vern,

What a great concept for saving energy. So many people are energy conscious nowadays that to know they can use a garden fountain and still be energy efficient is a big bonus.

These days I'd think it would be more practical to create a solar panel array for surplus energy production and simply run a regular garden fountain off of the energy it creates. That way the fountain has a constant power source and there's extra power to use for other household needs as well. In some locations, the power company even pays you back for extra electricity generated and sent to the main grid.
